Natural choices to support pet health and wellness
We offer a wide array of natural medications and dietary supplements from trusted sources.
For thousands of years, plants have played a role in healing. Many medicines were derived from plants and other natural substances—and some still are. Many of us have experienced benefits from dietary supplements, herbal or homeopathic remedies, or nutraceuticals—and many pets have, too. That’s why, along with conventional pharmacy products, we offer a large selection of natural medications and supplements for your pet.
Types of holistic products
Natural products fall into several categories.
- Dietary supplements provide nutrients that may be missing or not consumed in enough quantity in your pet’s diet. These can include omega-3 fatty acids, lysine, or other vitamins and minerals.
- Nutraceuticals are purified or extracted non-drug substances that we give to pets to improve their health and well-being. These can include glucosamine and chondroitin, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), s-adenyl-L-methione (SAMe), fortiflora and other products.
- Homeopathic remedies treat symptoms by introducing a diluted version of a plant, animal or mineral substance—for example using a diluted piece of onion, allium cepa, to eliminate runny nose and eyes.
Products we carry
Unlike conventional medicine, natural or holistic products are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Product quality can vary. We carry products from trusted sources, including:
What to expect
During your pet’s regular wellness exam, your veterinarian may suggest dietary supplements or nutraceuticals to help keep your pet healthy. For example, glucosamine may help keep an older pet’s joints more comfortable. To address a problem, your veterinarian may recommend certain natural products instead of or in addition to conventional medicine. In the case of chronic conditions, nutraceuticals and dietary supplements can sometimes allow us to use less conventional medicine, reducing the risk of some unwanted side effects.
